Are AI Girlfriends Safe?

Safe is doing a lot of work in that question, so split it: is your data safe, is your money safe, and are you safe. They have different answers and only the first two are about the platform.

Your data

Assume everything you type into any AI service is stored somewhere. The questions worth asking are who can see it, how long it is kept, whether you can delete it, and whether the company would survive being breached with your conversations in it.

Concretely, before you get attached to a platform: find the privacy policy, find the delete-my-account path, and check whether the service publishes anything about retention. If any of those three takes more than five minutes to locate, that is your answer.

Your money and your billing statement

Adult subscriptions appear on statements, and how they appear varies by processor. Check what descriptor a service bills under before you subscribe if that matters to you. Also check whether cancelling is a button or an email, because that difference tells you what kind of operation it is.

You

The genuine risk with companions is not that the AI does something to you, it is substitution. Added to a life, a companion is entertainment or company. Substituted for one, it can quietly make the harder work of human contact feel less necessary.

The signals worth watching in yourself are ordinary ones: cancelling plans you would have wanted, spending more than you meant to, feeling worse after a session rather than better. None of that is a reason nobody should use these products. It is a reason to notice.

Two things a platform must get right

Age assurance and prohibited content. An adult platform with no age screening is a platform with minors on it. A platform without a published prohibited-content list has not decided what it will refuse, which means it has not decided anything.

HoneyPot screens age at signup, carries the RTA label so parental-control software can block the site, publishes its prohibited-content policy and enforces it with active moderation. Every character is AI-generated and an adult. Chats and generated media are private to your account and deletable at any time.

Frequently asked questions

On HoneyPot, no. Chats and generated media are private to your account. Publishing anything is an explicit action you take.

Yes. You can delete your content at any time, and account deletion is available.

They are designed to be engaging, which is a real concern worth taking seriously. Watch for substitution rather than addition: cancelled plans, spending you did not intend, feeling worse afterwards.

Look for age screening at signup, an RTA label in the page source, a published prohibited-content policy and visible moderation. Missing any of those is meaningful.

Treat it like any online service: share what you would be comfortable having stored. There is no reason to give a companion your address, your employer or your financial details.
